Federal Way Day Center: Organizing In Action Case Study

Sound Alliance’s organizing practices helped lead to the successful opening and public funding of the Federal Way Day Center for the unsheltered in 2016 after a 3+ year campaign.

The Center, which is being operated by Catholic Community Services, is providing basic services such as showers, laundry facilities, PO boxes, computer access, etc.  Counseling and case management is also available.  These services help the houseless maintain dignity and get back on their feet more quickly.

Best Starts for Kids

Passed in November 2015, the Best Starts for Kids levy is funding programs to help ensure that every child in King County has a better opportunity to reach his or her full potential in life.

Healthier children become healthier adults, benefiting our whole community in ways such as preventing healthcare and criminal justice crises and creating a better-prepared workforce.

Immigrant Rights Ordinance

In a victory for the Sound Alliance and its allies, the King County Council voted 5:4 on December 2, 2013 to pass one of the strongest ordinances in the country limiting the honoring of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detainer requests at the local jail.

Foreclosure Prevention

The Sound Alliance Foreclosure Prevention Assembly in May, 2011 brought together more than 150 people for an exciting wrap-up of its foreclosure campaign. Speakers included Washington State Treasurer James McIntire, a key ally in the Sound Alliance campaign, Bank of America regional executives and several state legislators.

The assembly celebrated the Sound Alliance campaign victory in pushing for the establishment of Bank of America’s first in-person customer assistance center in Washington state. This center addresses many of the concerns raised by Alliance leaders, including the need for face-to-face assistance, a single point of contact for homeowners, more timely responses, assistance offered in multiple languages, and staff with decision-making ability onsite.
